1. Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) Housekeeping Amendments
What are the amendments about?
The MPS and the LUB work together to guide growth and development as part of a long-term plan and vision for the Town of Yarmouth. Since Council’s approval of both documents in 2016, Planning staff have been addressing inconsistencies, errors, and omissions through amendments.
How will this affect me?
The proposed revisions to these documents will provide for better readability and allow for easier understanding of the contents.
How do I get more information?
More information on the amendments to the MPS and LUB are provided in a report. To view this report, visit: townofyarmouth.ca/current-applications.html or email planningadmin@townofyarmouth.ca with your specific questions.
2. Building Code ByLaw Amendment
What are the amendments about?
The proposed changes will assist both applicants and staff by providing additional clarity around the building code regulation requirements for the application, permitting, inspection, occupancy and demolition. It will also see a change in the bylaw name from "Building Bylaw" to "Building Code Bylaw".
How will this affect me?
If you are a building permit applicant, these amendments will assist in making the entire building process easier and more transparent from start to finish. The revised bylaw will contain clarifying language on each step and better detail all building lifecycle requirements.

3. Vacant Buildings Bylaw Amendment
What are the amendments about?
The proposed changes will require the property owner of a vacant or abandoned building to apply for a Vacant Property Permit and ensure the property is maintained and/or repaired to become re-occupied in the future. Enforcement of the Building and Fire Code regulations during the time the building is unoccuppied will take place.
