To help preserve our environment, Nova Scotia’s Solid Waste-Resource Management Strategy includes a disposal ban on items that can be diverted from the landfill and made into valuable resources. When the strategy was adopted in 1998, the province was split into seven different regions to make managing solid waste easier. The Town of Yarmouth lies within Region 7, along with the Town of Digby and the four Municipalities of Argyle, Clare, Digby, and Yarmouth.
These six municipal units joined together to form Waste Check, an Authority which consists of two representatives from each member. Their goal is to provide waste-reduction awareness, education, and program support in our region – cutting down on waste for a healthy environment. You can learn more at wastecheck.ca.
