Along with three new stops on the route within town, a partnership has been formed that will add a stop at Wasoqopa’q First Nation on the airport stretch.

Thursday, November 21st, 2024 - Yarmouth, N.S .– The Town of Yarmouth is pleased to bring more great news around the transit service. A new partnership has been formed that will see the service add a stop at the Wasoqopa’q First Na-tion (WFN) Reserve. The stop will allow residents of WFN to ride the bus and access the many businesses and important services along the route, and provide current riders with the opportunity to use the now free service to access business-es on or near the Reserve.

“We are excited to partner with WFN to provide transit to their community, and for many reasons,” said Yarmouth Mayor, Pam Mood. “We all know the airport stretch is busy and dangerous for foot traffic, and this will go a long way towards alleviating that safety issue. It will also bring our communities together, allowing folks in town to access the WFN businesses and vice versa, regularly. Perhaps most importantly, working together as communities is always the right thing to do for all.”

“Having access to the Town’s services and shops is vital to everyone. Today’s announcement of extending Yarmouth transit bus services into our community is welcomed news and furthers the great relationship we have built with Mayor Mood, her council, and the Town of Yarmouth,” said Chief Deborah Robinson, Wasoqopa’q First Nation.

The bus will enter the reserve at the main administration building and travel along Pictou Drive to Robinson Road. The stop will be at the end of Robinson Road, next to the Shell station. Riders can also flag the bus along this route. Service begins on Monday, December 9th.

Three additional stops will also be added to the route within town, further improving the service for regular users and encouraging new users to ride the bus. The following new stops will also be in effect on Monday, December 9th:

- Parade Street at Myrtle Street
- Pleasant Street near the Korean War Memorial (Pleasant/Parade intersection)
- Forest Street at Clements Avenue

Transit staff will monitor these new stops over the coming months for usage and make adjustments if required. The ad-dition of these new stops will affect the bus schedule. The new schedule will be announced on Thursday, November 28th and will be made available at several retail locations, Yarmouth Town Hall, and online at https://www.townofyarmouth.ca/transit-services.html
