Friday, February 10, 2023 – At last evening’s Town Council meeting, three very deserving individuals were presented with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, in recognition of their significant service to the Province of Nova Scotia. The inaugural investiture ceremony took place in Council Chambers.
The medal was created to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne. The Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal was a tangible way for the province to honour The Queen's service while also honouring significant contributions and achievements made by residents. Three Town of Yarmouth employees have been recognized through this medal program as contributors to building a strong community.
Last evening, the Town of Yarmouth recognized the following individuals:
Todd Muise, Town of Yarmouth Parks Supervisor
Todd is a veteran, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Operational Stress Injury Support (OSISS) representative on the branch executive. He organizes the Yarmouth OSI Support group that meets every Monday as well as various OSI Awareness events. He has implemented the Town Memorial Banner Program and much more.
Judy Durkee, Administrative Assistant to the Planning and Economic Development Department
Judy and her husband implemented and continue to operate a musical instrument library called “The Music Room” for the public which loans out instruments to the public and donates instruments to those in need.
Christina Blake, D.A., Yarmouth Town Detachment (RCMP)
Christina has been volunteering for over 15 years around the community. Some of these events include the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, Seafest, Children's Wish, Rotary events and much more.
“We are tremendously thankful to have such committed individuals in our community, intent on making life better for all,” said Mayor Pam Mood. “They give their time willingly, their ideas are matched with action, and we are all blessed as they follow their hearts and lead in our community. “
