Looking ahead to next week’s work at the intersection of Main, Vancouver, and Chestnut Streets, please note that paving and traffic light installation work will require a full intersection closure, with the usual detours. These closures will remain in place overnight through the week, including Friday night, to allow new pavement to settle/cure.

Please note the following:

  • Main Street, between Hibernia Street and the intersection, will be local traffic only (no access to Vancouver Street). Emergency vehicles ONLY will be allowed to travel through this section, and detour through the Irving Station to access Vancouver Street.
  • Main Street, between the intersection and Elm Street, will be local traffic only.
  • Chestnut Street, between Summer Street and Brunswick Street, will be local traffic only. Customers of the Yarmouth Professional Centre will be allowed access via Brunswick Street.
  • Vancouver Street (hospital, Cape Forchu, Yarmouth Lighthouse) can be accessed from Water Street.
  • No right-hand turn access onto Main Street from Vancouver Street. Customers can access the Irving/Circle K and Duncan Plumbing via Water Street and Vancouver Street, but will need to exit using the same routes (no access to Main Street).

As mentioned, the intersection closure will remain in place overnight through the week, including Friday night to allow new pavement to settle/cure. Lights and barricades will be in place during evening and overnight hours. Traffic control personnel will be located at each detour during regular work hours to assist drivers and answer questions.

The intersection will be reopened at 8 am on Saturday, August 24th and remain open for the weekend. On Monday, August 26th, the full intersection closure detailed above will again be in effect. Another update will be issued on Monday afternoon regarding closures for the remainder of the week.

PLEASE NOTE: these closures are subject to change during construction. While we will do our best to offer updates, please be prepared for changes or new lane closures as you approach the area. All work is weather permitting. While Daily work times are 7 am to 7 pm, but may vary due to weather or other factors.
