The W. Laurence Sweeney Fisheries Museum is receiving applications for Seasonal Museum Interpreters (3). One position will begin May 22, 2018 and continue until approximately October 5th, 2018.The two additional positions will also start May 22, 2018 and will end August 31st, 2018.
The successful applicants will share the history of one of the most significant fishing and shipping enterprises in Southwest Nova Scotia. The interpreter will assist the public in their exploration of the Sweeney marine heritage through unique exhibits, including a simulation of a traditional fishing wharf, complete with fishing, processing and ship repair sheds, wharf decks and a coastal freighter.
Other duties include: opening/closing of museum, balancing cash, making deposits, utilizing a cash register, responding to various inquiries from local and traveling public.
Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be knowledgeable about other tourism and cultural attractions in the area. Previous experience working in tourism, hospitality or a museum setting is required.
