Town of Yarmouth Establishes Trust Fund for Donations to Reopen Facility
The trust fund will serve as safe method of accepting donations from businesses and individuals who wish to join the effort to reopen the much-needed facility
Friday, June 5th, 2020 - Yarmouth, N.S. – The Town of Yarmouth has established a trust fund that will serve to allow individuals and businesses to make donations towards reopening the facility formerly operated by the YMCA at 275 Main Street, Yarmouth. As the community rallies together to find the money needed to reopen this important facility, the trust fund will serve as a single, safe way to donate for everyone wishing to contribute to the cause.
The trust fund established by the Town of Yarmouth is for the specific purpose of supporting the reopening of the facility at 275 Main Street, formerly operated by the Yarmouth YMCA. Funds may be used for repairs to the building or other expenses deemed necessary for reopening. In the event the facility cannot reopen, the Town will return the funds to those individuals, companies or groups that provide sufficient information to the Town for the return of the funds. Should sufficient information not be provided to return the funds, the Town reserves the right to use the funds for a similar purpose.
Donations may be made in the following ways:
1) Through the Town of Yarmouth website using PayPal and all major credit cards at: https://www.townofyarmouth.ca/community-donation-programs.html
2) By Mail: Make cheques payable to: Town of Yarmouth - Trust Fund
Town of Yarmouth
400 Main Street
Yarmouth, B5A 1G2
3) In person at Town Hall, once Town Hall reopens to the Public, later this month
Tax receipts will be provided for amounts over $20. Please note: receipts will be issued only at the time the funds are actually used as per trust fund statement.
As a point of clarification, the trust fund is not about the YMCA organization. They have made a decision to close. The Town of Yarmouth understands and respects that decision but are working to find a way to reopen the facility itself. It may or may not be with a different operator, but regardless it will be carrying on the values and mission delivered by the YMCA for 162 years. We are working with the YMCA openly and collaboratively with the community at the centre of our work.
