Museum Interpreter

 

The W. Laurence Sweeney Fisheries Museum is seeking applications for Museum Interpreters.

1 Summer Student – available from June 5th, 2017 to August 27th, 2017

1 Regular Seasonal – available from May 22nd, 2017 to October 18th, 2017

The successful applicants will share the history of one of the most significant fishing and shipping enterprises in Southwest Nova Scotia. The interpreters will assist the public in their exploration of the Sweeney marine heritage through unique exhibits, including a simulation of a traditional fishing wharf, complete with fishing, processing and ship repair sheds, wharf decks and a coastal freighter.

Other duties will include but are not limited to: opening/closing of museum, balancing cash, making deposits, minor housekeeping, responding to various inquiries from local and traveling public.

Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be knowledgeable about other tourism and cultural attractions in the area. Previous experience working in a museum setting would be considered an asset.
