Day of Reflection July 1st

Category: Council Notices

The Town of Yarmouth will not be offering Canada Day activities and Town Council has set aside July 1st as a “Day of Reflection” out of respect for our neighbours and Indigenous communities across Canada.

Dear Yarmouth,

We are all experiencing the impact as the events around the Indigenous children continue to be exposed. The Town of Yarmouth stands firmly in solidarity with our friends and neighbours Acadia First Nation and all of Canada’s Indigenous communities. While we cannot pretend to understand the depth of the pain that has been endured in the past and that continues as the horrific wrongdoings continue to reveal themselves, we do stand with you.

The Town of Yarmouth will not be offering Canada Day activities and Town Council has set aside July 1st as a “Day of Reflection” out of respect for our neighbours and Indigenous communities across Canada. It is a day for each of us to reflect on our relationships with our Indigenous communities, to acknowledge the past and commit to becoming better allies through education, conversation and understanding. We all have so much to learn.

To our First Nation neighbours and friends, much respect.
