The program gives the downtown an extra boost of colour and beauty by allowing businesses to rent ready-to-go planters for the summer.
The program came to life early this year and received a positive response from downtown businesses. For a rental fee $85, businesses along part of the hanging basket route between Parade Street and Forest Street could apply on a first-come, first-serve basis to improve their curb appeal by adding one or more of the planters to the front of their premises. Participants had their planters delivered this week and will enjoy the extra touch of beauty they bring until the end of September.
Coastal Financial Credit Union received two of the planters. Branch Manager Darryl
Wade Cleveland, Councillor for Town of Yarmouth and Chair of Communities in Bloom Yarmouth said “We're very excited to see how enthusiastic our merchants have been about this new program. It is always our goal to add beauty and greenery in the downtown, and in all parts of the town. A huge thank you to everyone who got behind it.”
As a bonus to renting the planters, Parks staff will provide all watering and maintenance as part of the hanging basket maintenance schedule. The units also feature an innovative design that allows it to store water in a reservoir below the soil line to help keep the soil moist. Each planter
